The developers are following with interest the progress in E Ink color technology. The E Ink Gallery, also known as ACeP (Advanced Color ePaper), has got a successor – E Ink Gallery Plus. According to the E Ink, this next generation of full color ePaper modules has a color gamut ideally reaching 60,000 colors, representing an improvement almost 50% over the earlier generations. The contrast ratio is improved by 40%, from 10:1 to 14:1, providing a more impactful visual experience. The look and feel of the new generation are similar to color prints, with the benefit of digital changes that allow instant updates to match with promotion and communication needs. E Ink Gallery Plus is available in various sizes for customers, including 13.3-inch, 25.3-inch, and 28-inch and is targeted for indoor commercial signage for retail, restaurants, transportation, and public information displays.

Interesting is the fact that there is no differencies between Gallery and Gallery Plus on the hardware level and the changes take place in the rendering algorithm and waveform data only. It means, corresponding firmware and software update of the driving board helps to upgrade ePaper panels from the first generation to Gallery Plus with better optical characteristics.
