Sensor is a device, whose purpose is to detect events or changes in its environment and send the information to other electronics, frequently a computer processor.
The resolution of a sensor is the smallest change it can detect in the quantity, that it is measuring.

Distance Measuring Sensor:
It is a device composed of an integrated combination of PSD (position sensitive detector) or CMOS image sensor, IRED (infrared emitting diode) and signal processing circuit. The distance measuring sensor outputs the voltage, corresponding to the detection distance, so these sensors can also be used as proximity sensors.
